Currently in NYC — October 9, 2023: Partly sunny and cool

Plus, on Indigenous Peoples Day, #landback for climate justice

The weather, currently.

Partly sunny and cool

How are we all liking this cooler air? I had to throw another blanket on the bed last night and I’m not mad at it. Monday will feel crisp and refreshing with a southwest breeze and partly sunny skies. We barely make it to 60°F which is about 7 degrees below average for us. Our week ahead is looking partly sunny and cool. Guess when the next rain storm likely heads our way… Yup, it’s looking like next weekend. Again. Hopefully that changes but an early heads up, if not.

What you need to know, currently.

One of the best climate strategies is returning stolen land to Indigenous people — this is what climate justice looks like.

This year, in advance of Indigenous Peoples Day, the NDN Collective has launched a Just Transition fund to help build technical capacity for frontline groups to continue the #landback fight.

Indigenous people already protect the vast majority of the world’s biodiversity, with technologies such as prescribed fire and responsible resource harvesting. It’s time for the rest of society to follow their lead.
