Currently in NYC — November 22, 2023: We dry out

Plus, some big news ... on the road to building a weather service for everyone.

The weather, currently.

We dry out before we dry brine

The day has come to stuff ourselves into trains, cars, busses and planes in search of stuffing. Low pressure moves through our region on Wednesday and the day slowly improves. Occasional rain is possible throughout the early morning but then we dry out before we dry brine. It’s a warmer day with highs in the upper 50s. It’ll actually feel a little humid out there, too. The wind calms down a bit and we can see some breaks of sunshine in the afternoon. I wish you safe travels, no drama, and a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Some big news,

We just launched Currently Weather Service's first public offering! We’re hoping to raise $10,000 between now and Small Business Saturday. Your investment will make the difference in building Currently into a driving force for climate justice.

Starting at $100, you can become a direct investor in Currently and help us move forward with confidence.

We decided to partner with Honeycomb because they’re a platform that allows small businesses like us to raise money from our community instead of a bank. However, we’re not asking for donations like a Kickstarter or a GoFundMe - you actually get to invest in us — and you will own a part of the work we do together.

Thank you so much for supporting our important work to continue building an innovative personalized weather service for the climate emergency.

What you can do, currently.

Everyone deserves to thrive. Everyone is worthy of a better world. That’s why we’re building a weather service for the climate emergency.

Currently’s new weather service is now live. In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be continually adding more features and opening up more slots as we develop the service.

But for now, space is limited in the weather service because I want to make sure we can provide the highest quality service we possibly can while we work to refine the system with your input.

If you’d like to put your name on the waiting list, be sure to fill out our baseline survey if you haven’t already which will hold your spot in line.

Our goal — as always — is to co-create the most personalized, most informative weather service that exists. And, above all, to make this service accessible, equitable, and resilient enough to bring safety and joy to the climate emergency.

Another mild day with increasing clouds

Like the temperatures on Friday, I hope your day is above average. We’re looking at a mild high of 65°F with increasing clouds throughout the day. Enjoy the warmer weather because a cold front is knocking at our door. We could see some showers on Friday night into Saturday morning as it moves through. We clear out during the day on Saturday but we cool down quickly. It will be windy too so bundle up out there. Sunday is looking sunny with highs in the low 50s. Have a relaxing weekend!

We’ve got a Freeze Warning for parts of NYC from midnight until 8am Tuesday morning. The Bronx and Staten Island are included in the warning so protect your outdoor plumbing and bring in any plants that you may want to save. We warm up during the day on Tuesday though and climb to near 50°F. Now, what about that rain? It begins in the late afternoon and evening and could be heavy at times overnight. 1-2 inches of rain is possible. It’s going to be quite breezy overnight, too. Stay dry!
