plus, the worst air quality in decades hits the East Coast

The weather, currently.

Mostly sunny with hazy conditions

Anyone else feel an overwhelming sense of sadness seeing all the smoke in the sky? It was the heaviest haze that we’ve seen yet and it felt kind of apocalyptic. The wildfire smoke lingers into our Wednesday so the air quality could still be unhealthy, especially for sensitive groups. Expect mostly sunny skies with a high of 78°F. An afternoon shower can’t be ruled out but it will likely stay dry. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 57°F which is five degrees below our average low temperature.

Bike Forecast:

8 out of 10

What you need to know, currently.

Eastern North America is currently experiencing one of the worst air quality outbreaks in decades.

Smoke from a record-setting start to wildfire season in Canada has been streaming across the border all week, darkening skies, and sending people to hospitals.

At one point on Tuesday, the air quality index for New York City was one of the worst in the world, peaking at 157 — that’s 11.9 the WHO air quality guideline value for particulate pollution and considered ‘unsafe’ for all people.

If air quality alerts are affecting the place you live, please take them seriously. Wear masks, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on your neighbors. The CDC has a guide for protecting yourself from wildfire smoke.
