Currently in NYC — June 24, 2024: A cooler and less muggy Monday

Plus, independent climate journalism needs your support, now more than ever

The weather, currently.

A cooler and less muggy Monday

We catch a bit of a break on Monday after the extreme heat and humidity of the weekend. Central Park hit 94°F on Friday which is 13°F above average.

Thankfully, a cold front drops our temperatures back down into the 80s and makes it feel less humid out there. Our day will be partly sunny with a beautiful breeze and a high of 84°F. We jump back up near 90°F again on Tuesday and Wednesday before another cold front comes through. It’s definitely summertime. Hope it’s an easy Monday for you!

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
