Currently in NYC — July 30, 2024: Warm and humid with an isolated thunderstorm

The weather, currently.

We have clouds in lane 1 and sunshine in lane 2 battling for priority in the sky on Tuesday. Oh, but here comes thunderstorms in lane 3 giving them a run for their money! Yes, I’m watching a lot of the Olympics. 

It’s a partly cloudy day with a couple of showers and thunderstorms around. It’s very humid. There’s a decent breeze out of the south in the afternoon and our high hits 84°F. Showers become more likely after dark so get ready for a muggy overnight with a low of 74°F. Hope you have a gold medal winning type of day.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
