Currently in NYC — July 3, 2024: Our good weather stretch continues!

The weather, currently. 

I woke up Tuesday to a hot cup of coffee in an overly hot world with a hot fear of our failing democracy but hey, at least the weather is kind.

We have a do-over day on tap on Wednesday with our temperature and humidity levels very similar to what they were on Tuesday. We reach 83°F with a mix of sun and clouds. Our dew point climbs a couple degrees but it’s still comfortable outside.

By the afternoon the breeze increases as a frontal system approaches. That sets us up for a more humid night.

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
