Currently in NYC — July 1st, 2024: Mostly sunny and less humid

The weather, currently. 

What a difference a day makes. The storm threat is over and so is the oppressive humidity. We kick off July on a much cooler note as temperatures only climb to near 80°F under mostly sunny skies. It will feel tremendously better out there! You’ll notice that refreshing north breeze all day, too.

The first half of the week is looking sunny with highs in the 80s. It’s great travel weather if you’re heading out for the Fourth of July holiday. Enjoy the beautiful day!

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
