Currently in NYC — December 1, 2023: Occasional rain

Plus, we're building a weather service for everyone.

The weather, currently.

Remaining mild with afternoon rain

Alright, team. We’re taking a break for the month of December. I wish you many snow days and the happiest of holidays. We’re kicking off December’s weather with occasional rain and clouds. Boooo, I know. We’re back up to 50°F again on Friday with afternoon rain. The dampness continues into the weekend with mostly cloudy skies and occasional showers, especially on Sunday. Temperatures remain mild with highs in the mid 50s. It’s December and there’s magic in the air. Don’t let a little rain stop you from finding it.

What you can do, currently.

Everyone deserves to thrive. Everyone is worthy of a better world. That’s why we’re building a weather service for the climate emergency.

Currently’s new weather service is now live. In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll be continually adding more features and opening up more slots as we develop the service.

But for now, space is limited in the weather service because I want to make sure we can provide the highest quality service we possibly can while we work to refine the system with your input.

If you’d like to put your name on the waiting list, be sure to fill out our baseline survey if you haven’t already which will hold your spot in line.

Our goal — as always — is to co-create the most personalized, most informative weather service that exists. And, above all, to make this service accessible, equitable, and resilient enough to bring safety and joy to the climate emergency.

Continued cold but not as windy

How are we holding up in this colder weather? I spent much of the afternoon walking around the west village on a snowflake search. Wednesday is shaping up to be another cold day. We gain a couple degrees for a high of 41°F but we’ll still have windchills in the 20s. The wind will be a bit lighter, thankfully but it’s still not the best day for a sleeveless stroll. Partly sunny skies are expected with increasing clouds overnight. Our low gets down to freezing once again. If you’re heading out to try to catch the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, dress warmly!
