Currently in NYC — August 29, 2024: Much cooler and less humid!

The weather, currently.

What a difference a day makes, huh? That cold front meant business. It will feel 25 degrees cooler on Thursday! Our high doesn’t climb past 75°F and the humidity is gone.

It’s great travel weather if you’re heading out of town for the holiday weekend. Partly sunny skies can be expected but don’t be surprised by an isolated shower or thunderstorm. A fall-like pattern is back for the next couple of days and it will feel amazing. Thursday’s breeze will be present, refreshing and comfortable. Enjoy every second!

What you can do, currently.

A Media Matters analysis found that last year — the hottest calendar year on record — network coverage of climate actually declined in the US. What’s worse, just 12% of reports about climate change mentioned fossil fuels as the driving cause. The media still reported on extreme weather, but stopped short of making the climate connection.

Independent climate journalism like Currently is needed more than ever. And this year, with all of these weather warnings already underway, we’ll unfortunately have plenty of opportunities to do better.
